The McKenzie Fire & Rescue Fire District protects 45 miles of Oregon’s McKenzie River between Springfield and Blue River. Our crew of over 50 volunteers is proud of our mission: to prevent, protect, and preserve life and property from loss by fire, accident, sudden illness, or disaster in the community; further, to enhance the quality of life and to minimize suffering wherever possible.

The district is rural with a population of approximately 9,000 citizens growing to 10,000 -12,000 during the summer months. The main road through the district is Oregon State Highway 126 (McKenzie Highway) which is a key artery between the Willamette Valley and Eastern/Central Oregon

The majority of the 9-1-1 calls are fires, medical emergencies or motor vehicle accidents. Members are also expected to respond to more specific and technical emergencies such as water rescues, hazardous materials incidents, extrication, steep angle rescues and even farm animal rescues. 

McKenzie Fire & Rescue has many volunteers who provide a variety services. All members receive specialized training and carry specialized equipment to mitigate emergencies. During the summer months the firefighters may respond to wild fires and brush fires, both in the district and as members of a countywide strike team that helps protect the entire state. The volunteers are almost exclusively the first to respond to any type of emergency in the district.
